How it works
Founded in 1963 by a group of Greek businessmen with the Dutch Amstel brewery behind them, when a second beer was allowed next to Fix (Amstel was approved on 15 July 1965). The first brewery, on Kifisou Avenue in Athens, began brewing Amstel in 1965; a second brewery followed in Thessaloniki in 1974 and a third in Patras in 1981, when Heineken was first brewed in Greece. Part of the Heineken group, the largest brewer in Greece (Amstel, Heineken, Alfa, Fischer, Mamos, Nymfi), with maltings in Thessaloniki and Patras. The small ATHINEO brewery opened in the Athens plant in 2015. unverified info
