How it works
Egypt's largest brewer. Its roots are the Crown Brewery of Alexandria and the Pyramid Brewery of Giza, set up by Belgian businessmen in 1897, both brewing Stella; Heineken became a major shareholder in 1937 and the Pyramid brewery took the Arabic name Al Ahram. Nationalised under Nasser and merged in 1963 as Al Ahram Beverages Company. Sold by the state to Ahmed Zayat in 1997; bought El Gouna Beverages (Sakara) in 2001 and Luxor from EgyBev in 2009. Part of Heineken since 2002. The brewery is now in Obour City. unverified info
