Brewery
back Samuel Allsopp & Sons

Country: gb United Kingdom
Closed in 1934 — no longer brewing at its old place

One of the largest brewers of Burton upon Trent. Its origins go back to the 1740s, when Benjamin Wilson brewed there; in 1807 his son Benjamin Wilson junior sold the brewery to his nephew Samuel Allsopp, and in 1822 it copied the India Pale Ale of Hodgson, a London brewer, after which its business began to recover. A second brewery in Station Street was built in 1859-60, the company was registered as Samuel Allsopp & Sons Ltd in 1887, went into receivership in 1911, and in June 1934 merged with Ind Coope to form Ind Coope & Allsopp Ltd. unverified info
