How it works
Formed in 1888 by merging Richard Warwick & Sons, the descendant of Samuel Sketchley's Tower Wharf brewery of 1766, with Richardson, Earp & Slater's Trent Brewery, in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. The Northgate Brewery dates from 1871; the firm also malted its own barley. John Smith's of Tadcaster bought it in 1962 and brewing stopped in 1966. Most of the buildings survive, some converted to homes. unverified info
