## About

Started in 1828 by John Jennings at Lorton in the Lake District; the family moved to the Castle Brewery in Cockermouth in 1874. Wolverhampton & Dudley (now Marston's) bought it in May 2005. In September 2022 Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company proposed closing the brewery in early October 2022, with five jobs lost, and moving Cumberland Ale to Burton upon Trent. Brands: Cumberland Ale, Cocker Hoop, Sneck Lifter.
