## About

The firm traces itself to a brewery at the Swan in Haslemere, Surrey, about 1750; George Bridger Gibbs became a partner in Fawcett's Brewery in 1838 and moved to the Anchor Brewery in Gigant Street, Salisbury, in 1858. Gibbs, Mew & Co. Ltd was registered in May 1898 by combining Bridger Gibbs & Son with Herbert Mew's brewery. It closed the Salisbury brewery in 1997 (1998 in press accounts) and became a pub company; its beers were first brewed by Ushers of Trowbridge, and the company, with 310 houses, was sold to Enterprise Inns in 2011.
