## About

Formed in 1888 by merging Richard Warwick & Sons, the descendant of Samuel Sketchley's Tower Wharf brewery of 1766, with Richardson, Earp & Slater's Trent Brewery, in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. The Northgate Brewery dates from 1871; the firm also malted its own barley. John Smith's of Tadcaster bought it in 1962 and brewing stopped in 1966. Most of the buildings survive, some converted to homes.
