## About

John Lees, a retired cotton manufacturer, built the Greengate Brewery at Middleton, near Manchester, in 1828; the firm took the name J.W. Lees in 1876 under his grandson. It is still family owned, with the seventh generation joining in 2023. Harvest Ale, a barley wine, is brewed every autumn. In 2025 it was granted exclusive rights to brew Boddingtons Cask.
